I’m kicking off a brand new series on The Model Mama Show called, The Expert Series. I couldn’t be more excited about this and the opportunity to share so much wisdom with you from the best in the business. This new wave of episodes is going to be a deep dive with my favorite specialists in their respective fields. And most of them are people I’ve either worked, hired, or been listening to for my own personal growth. As a result, I’ve learned so much from them and I wanted to share their inspiring stories and insights with all of you.

Our first guest of Season 2 is my new friend and owner of Skin Savvy Medical Spa in Los Angeles: Jenifer Salerno. Jennifer is a successful entrepreneur and Mama of six! She’s passionate about educating women on skincare and teaching women how to create the perfect personalized plan to achieve the most youthful and radiant skin possible. These plans are truly a comprehensive approach, including pharmaceutical-grade products, in-office treatments, and learning to nourish your body from the inside-out.

I’ve been a regular at her Medical Spa in Hermosa Beach for the past 6 months or so. She’s transformed my skin care regiment and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I wrote what some would call a “taboo” article on The Model Mama called, Beauty and Botox, a few months ago. I wanted to address this topic head on and answer all questions about this popular beauty treatment. If you follow me on Instagram you might remember I even shared action-shot videos of my in-office experience receiving Botox at Skin Savvy.

For the record, my goal isn’t to convince you to do anything. My mission all along is simply to educate and empower on all topics – beauty is one of my favorites. When I launched The Model Mama, I vowed to honestly share all my secrets in hopes it would allow other Mamas to make informed decisions about how to feel like the absolute best version of themself.

Some of my favorite takeaways from Jen:

+ Balancing Motherhood and being a business owner:

I create boundaries and honor those boundaries which helps me a lot to relieve some of the mom guilt… I make sure I’m fully present in whatever I’m doing at that moment.
— Jen

+ Pivoting from ER Nurse to Expert in Aesthetics

I needed a happy job… through a lot of self-reflection and also the fact that I was recognizing that my skin was aging poorly, I had a lot of skin problems, sun damage, rosacea and premature aging. I started taking classes in skincare and got very passionate about medical aesthetics and that led me 15 years ago, to open up Skin Savvy in Hermosa Beach.

+ Skincare isn’t just about beauty

It’s not just for aesthetics. Your skin protects you. It’s how you eliminate toxins from your body. It’s very important to take care of. Also, we’re going to be living with our skin for 90 plus years, you need it to persist for a very long time. So prevention is number one. You want to prevent the breakdown of your skin. There’s a lot of ways of doing that, but number one is sun protection.
— Jen

+ Choose the right products.

In order to get a product that will penetrate through the dead layer of your skin, you need to get a professional grade product and those products are available at medical spas, dermatology offices, plastic surgery offices, but they are not available from a non-monitored location, like Nordstrom

+ Top anti-aging tip for someone in their 30’s.

So when you’re in your 30s, nutrition for your skin is really important. The good antioxidant blends. I have a vitamin C serum that I couldn’t live without.
— Jen

+Top anti-aging tip for someone in their 40’s.

When you’re in your 40s, the home care products you are using need to be a little bit more about stimulation. How do we stimulate the skin to regenerate?
— Jen

+ Top anti-aging tip for someone in their 50’s.

Hydration and hydrating your skin is key.
